Call services
The features that can be accessed from any type of phone are driven by options offered by the service provider. This includes providing services over telephone lines, cable lines, or over the Internet.
With the exception of certain options such as identifier, call waiting and conference call, these features are normally accessed by codes entered on the dial pad. Some of the calling features offered by telephone companies for home phones include call waiting, conference call, and forwarding.
Call in wait
This feature notifies you of an incoming call while talking. A beep is heard when the second call comes in. Normally, you can switch calls by pressing the Flash key, the talk button, or the hook button.
Phone conference
This feature allows you to create a group call of up to three people, including yourself. Normally, once the person initiating the call is on the line, pressing the Flash key, talk button, hook switch or conference key will put the first call on hold, open a line and call the second person. Once the second party is on the line, pressing the keys, buttons or hook switch twice will connect everyone on the same line.
Call forwarding
This option allows you to automatically divert incoming calls to another number. This is usually done by obtaining a telephone call by entering the forwarding access code and the number that should receive forwarded calls. There is usually a confirmation tone. Advantages of having a home phone service
Nowadays, cell phones and the internet are so present in people's lives that it is easy to forget the importance of having a home phone.
In recent years there have been marked changes in mobile phone plans, which have meant that landlines are no longer so important. Despite this, for many people, this is still the main means of communication.
