Bordered by the States of Tennessee, Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas and by the Gulf of Mexico in its southern part, the mississippi state is the 32nd largest and the 34th most populous of the United States. Its flag carries the phrase “In God we trust”.

Jackson is its capital and its largest city by territorial area. Greater Jackson is the most populous Metropolitan Statistical Area, being formed by 5 counties (Copiah, Hinds, Madison, Rankin and Simpson). Some of its major industries of this centered-located MS are electrical and equipment machinery, processed food and primary products.

The official state name means “The Father of Rivers”. The state’s western boundary is largely defined by the mississippi River itself. The territorial area of this state is almost entirely composed by lowlands, and a large part is within the East Gulf Coastal Plain. There are several national parks there, and the climate that dominates in this region is the humid subtropical.

Agriculture, mainly cotton production, have marked the mississippian economy (due to the strong plantation culture) for a large time in history. Although it can be considered still an agricultural state in post-modernity, the manufacturing sector is in better conditions as well as tourism, being helped by the gambling which is an attractive activity there.

Culturally, mississippi is considered the Blues music birthplace, which was usually played in 1800s and 1900s in the Deep South of the U.S., combining American and African elements with black American work songs and spirituals, other than features of the folk.
