As the 2nd largest State of the U.S., losing just for Alaska, Texas has an evident importance for the South-Central region, where it is located. The State is also the 2nd between the most populous ones, only coming behind the State of California in this ranking.
Until 1846, Texas was an independent republic that existed under the Mexican power. In the native American language that it was originated, named Caddo, “Texas” or “Tejas” means “friends”. The Spanish Empire has marked this States’ past and for this historical mark, the Texas is also known as the “Lone Star”, referring to the separated territory before it became an annex of the United States that triggered a declared war involving the two countries that were disputing the Republic of Texas in that decade. The Mexican – American war occurred between 1846 and 1848.
Clearly a vast State not only in territorial terms but also in its historical, cultural and economic aspects, Texas is today an important urban center. Long time ago, before the 20th century, it was popular by the cowboy tradition, related to the strong presence of cattle in its farms.
However, the Texan State have been fostering a very different profile in these last decades, becoming each day a more entrepreneurs, cosmopolitan and postmodern reference point from the American point of view and word widely. The State’s booming economy gradually provoked investments attraction thanks to some sectors’ progress, such as the manufacturing and labor growth.
In the Best States for Business Forbes’ list of 2020, the Texan State figures in the 2nd position of all the 50 States, losing just for North Colorina. This means a decline, as Texas was in the 1st position of the same list in 2019.
Texan Economy is driven mostly by the following industries: Exportation, High-Technology, Energetic (natural gas and petroleum) and Tourism. Many big companies for the American Gross Product are located in Texas, which are highlighted regularly by the rank of the largest corporations in U.S. by total revenue and their fiscal years.
