About the State of Utah

Located in the Mountain West subregion of the Western United States, Utah is the 11th least-densely populated, 13th largest and 30th most populous state of the country in comparison to the other 49 American federal territories.

The Utah State borders six other U. S’s states: Nevada, Arizona, Idaho, New Mexico, Colorado and Wyoming. The main urban centers in this territory are in the Wasatch Front area and Washington County.

The northern part of the state is home to most of Utahans and is also where Salt Lake City, the state’s capital, is located. The federal government owns 65% of the state’s territory. Some of the largest cities, other than the capital, are: West Valley City, Provo, West Jordan, Orem, Sandy and St. George.

This state was occupied by the Ancestral Puebloans and the Fremont people before the European colonizers’ exploitation, and the state’s name comes from the “Ute” Native American” tribe, which means people of mountains.

Internet Connection in UT

internet_providers_woman-in-globe
Currently, about 88.4% of the Utahan State’s territory is covered by a broadband service provider. The term “broadband” means, according to the Federal Communication Commission (FCC), any internet connection with speeds of at least 25 Mbps for download and 3 Mbps for upload.

In this state, about only 26.3% of residents there can have access to an affordable internet plan, which is a lower rate than the national average, close to half of it. The low-cost internet plans are those costing $60 or less per month.

The lack of better coverage and accessible pricing practices in the internet market of Oklahoma can be read, overall, as a reflection of the concentration of this technology investment in the metropolitan areas of Utah, mainly Salt Lake City.

This digital divide puts aside the population that live in smaller communities, not only in terms of less carriers available but also neglecting them the possibility of a better service (faster speeds, advanced technologies, etc.).
