Streaming, videoconferencing and online games: time to change internet plan

Posted On     Monday, December 21st, 2020

Everyday demands ask an internet compatible with consumption to have an ideal performance. The national and local internet service are some of the inventions with the greatest impact on contemporary society. For most people, it is impossible to imagine a world where there is no world wide web. Younger generations do not even know the planet without a digital connection.

In constant evolution, the use of the internet has ever greater demands. Exactly because of this, some services that run on the network often do not have the best performance. At this point, it is essential to understand your consumption to choose an internet plan with the best cost-benefit ratio.

Currently, only those who use the internet for everyday activities, such as sending and receiving e-mails and services that involve only typing, can satisfy these needs with an intermediate plan. It turns out that, in fact, the share of people, especially professionals, who use the internet with such a small demand is getting smaller.

Online gaming

Online games are exactly one of the services that most demand speed. To give you an idea, Counterstrike, one of the most popular games in the world, spends between 100 and 130 MB per hour to have an acceptable performance, without affecting the quality. The also famous League of Legends requires between 30 and 50 MB per hour.

While those who play just for fun may not be so bothered by a connection that doesn’t exactly meet the demands of online games, it is worth remembering that the gamer profession is a reality. In such cases, a fall or even a short delay during the game can compromise an entire game and, potentially, a championship.

In such cases, the ideal is to hire an internet service with at least 120 MB. This will give the games enough bandwidth to run smoothly. Whoever plays on the cell phone, using the Wi-Fi network, will also be well attended with this speed. That’s because mobile games spend much less internet.

Working from home transformation

In recent years, we have also seen a growing rise in remote work, whether in the case of freelancers, who work entirely at home, with different clients, or the home office, in general, practiced by those who work for a company, but remain at home in some days of the week.

The global pandemic has further accelerated this process, but it had been going on before that. Thus, the number of people working remotely is expected to be high, even after prolonged quarantine.

A survey by ISE Business School reports that at least 80% of managers approve the results of the home office and intend to keep it, even if on a smaller scale. In this model, videoconferencing is an essential tool and is often used daily.

There are several videoconferencing platforms, and internet consumption will depend on that. In general, they have the same consumption as the heavier games, that is, around 100 MB per hour. Thus, an internet with at least 120 MB is also recommended.

However, it is worth remembering that, in several situations, more than one person will be using services that require a lot of bandwidth at the same time. In this sense, the internet must be compatible with this, and the best plan is 240 MB.

Internet Plans

Nowadays, fortunately, there are internet speeds and packages that are ideal for the needs of each consumer, at very affordable prices, compared to the emergence of broadband.

Thus, there is no reason for you to experience any uncomfortable situation in the workplace because you do not have an internet compatible with the internet technology and the offer service you choose.
